Women in Leadership Panel kicks off 2017

To kick off 2017, nearly 80 women attended the Women in Leadership Panel event. Our panel of leaders included Megan Costello, Executive Director of the Mayor's Office for Women's Advancement, City of Boston, Laurie Glimcher, MD, President and CEO of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Diane Grossman, Professor of Philosophy and Women's and Gender Studies at Simmons College, and Fran Kelly, President and CEO of CEOVIEW Branding. Moderator Libby Leffler, Harvard Business School co-Student Body President and a member of Lean In's launch team, led a rousing discussion on how to get more women into leadership roles. In case you missed it, here are a few of the key takeaways from our panelists:

  • The gender gap isn't just about policies - its about culture. We must work on both fronts in order to increase the number of women in leadership positions.

  • The reality is that making it as a leader isn't easy! Becoming a leader means you'll have to be an expert multi-tasker and sometimes make difficult decisions, but if you're passionate about what you do, it will be worth the struggle.

  • Confidence is key. Focus on your talents, not your failures, and learn how to prioritize what is most important. No one is good at everything!

  • Find great mentors, and mentor other women. Look for a person who will help you get a seat at the table.

A special thanks to our panelists for joining us and our host Shire for providing space for us.
